Kuala Terengganu to Redang Island
Redang is one of these heavenly islands with beautiful beaches and luxurious, cozy resorts for the visitors. Redang is situated offshore from Terengganu and can be reached by with water jetties or boat. While boat can stretch the journey into a lengthy one, jetty can get you to Redang faster. From Kuala Terengganu 40 minutes away is Kuala Besut, which has jetties that can take you to Redang Island. There are two jetties, Shahbandar jetty and the Merang jetty. However the resorts situated there also have their own jet services, which they run via Merang Jetty and it comes with their special vacation resort packages. Hence, you can easily reach from Kuala Terengganu to Pulau Redang.
In Redang, there is a public ferry in the Kampung village that travels between the Shahbandar jetties in Kuala Terengganu to Redang. Those resorts that offer the ferry services as part of their packages may charge you extra, so in order to have your bucks wasted, check on your package and utilize your tickets before buying some more. The tickets for one way is RM50 per head for the adults and it’s almost half for the children. These tickets are available for purchase from Shahbandar jetty in Kuala Terengganu where you pay MYR50 one-way for adults, children pay half fare.
Shahbandar Jetty Kuala Terengganu:
A 15 minutes walk away from a coach station in downtown Kuala Terengganu, opposite to the GPO and the information center you will find Shahbandar Jetty. This is a huge tourist attraction spot known for its shops and eateries apart from the Hill, Maziah palace and other interesting places. Shahbandar jetty is only used in by Merang in times of bad storm or poor weather conditions at the Merang River when the Merang jetty has been halted. The Shahbandar Jetty is a preferred mode of transportation from Kuala Terengganu to Redang Island.
Merang Jetty Kuala Terengganu:
Merang jetty is situated at the nearest points to Pulau Redang, 40 minutes by road journey from Kuala Terengganu. There are numerous resorts at Merang and each has their own jetty along with their check-in areas for public car along the river at the road side.
There are some ferries too, that transport you from Kuala Terengganu to Redang Island. These often require check-ins in advance before the departure. The timings of the jetties and ferries are subject to change depending upon the capricious weather conditions in which regard, it is recommended that you update yourself with the Ferry and jetty depart timings every now and then.
If your arrival timings did not matched the schedule of any of the two jetties and the one public ferry to Redang Island, then you can opt to stay your night in Kuala Terengganu or get a private boat charter. It is the only option for apart from these, if you don’t want to spend your night in KT.
You can get a private boat charter from Merang Jetty, as there are few operators running this service. They charge approximately RM500 just for one way route to Redang Island and may be RM50 for a passenger, if there are enough people to board in. The private boat charter service providers also offer other services like KT airport/coach land transfers, resort bookings and van charters. If you are willing to book them for any of their services, it is recommended to call them prior you arrive at Merang jetty.
